Qu'est-ce que c'est?

Another investigation! We are exploring old tools such as this old wash board and iron from my grandmother's home. Almost all of our students recognized them and are now trying to imagine how exactly they were used, by who and what types of tools/machines we use today for the same purposes! We are having some interesting small group discussions!

Qu'est-ce que c'est?

Today's social studies lesson consisted of an interesting investigation! I brought in this old tool and its pieces for our class to analyze and discuss. Though everyone is convinced it was used for making shoes, it took some creative thinking in how exactly it was used and with what materials. It made for some exciting discussions!

Les mosaïques

As a geometry activity, we are creating les mosaïques. We had to ensure that our mosaïque included:
- des figures avec des côtés droits
- des figures qui sont congruentes à d'autres
- des figures avec UN axe de symétrie
- et presque toute la feuille doit être couverte de figures

La toile

As a social studies inquiry on the pioneer lifestyle, we analyzed these photos brought in by one of our students. We examined the photos of her distant relatives and tried to imagine various aspects of their lives. Some students thought that they made their own clothes, were farmers or guessed the years they were born. After sharing our ideas, I read to them the information that was passed onto me about the couple. Some of our guesses were right! We later made this web to demonstrate our thinking. If you have any photos or old objects from the pioneer times and would like to share them with our class please do!
